GEORGE BARRELL WILLCOCK WAS BORN IN EXETER IN 1811 AND STUDIED LANDSCAPE PAINTING UNDER THE ARTIST JAMES STARK WHOSE INFLUENCE IS APPARENT IN THIS PAINTING. THE MAJORITY OF HIS LANDSCAPES WERE PAINTED IN DEVON.
