Avec un dessin signé de Masson
Post Lot Text
First edition of Bataille's first published work. Because of its erotic, if not perverse, nature and clandestinity, the author adopted a pseudonym while the illustrator and publishers remained anonymous. The book followed Aragon's Le Con d'Irène in the series, which was halted by police intervention. Illustrated with 8 original lithographs by André Masson, the edition was limited to 134 copies, this being one of 125 on vergé d'Arches paper. Important copy, containing the original drawing by Masson for the sixth lithograph, one of the best-known images in the book.
