Since 1993, the Theodora Foundation strives to brighten hospitalised children's time in hospital by financing and organising visits of professional clowns at their bedside. The "clown doctors" visit the children on an individual basis, offering them magical moments of happiness full of colour, music, stories and laughter. Training given by leading nursing schools, specialised doctors and artistic directors enables our artists to visit children in all paediatric departments and particularly those where children are hospitalised for a long time. Whether in emergency units, intensive care, oncological or orthopaedic wards, all children receive the heart-warming visit of a clown doctor.
Since its creation, the Theodora Foundation has developed its activity in nine countries including Switzerland, Turkey, South Africa, Belarus, France, Spain, England and Italy. In 2005, the Theodora Foundation's 132 professional clowns will visit close to 220,000 children in 88 hospitals located in 3 continents.
The world of children and clowns being borderless, this concept was successfully introduced in Hong Kong in 1996. In partnership with the Playright Foundation, which coordinates the Hong Kong programme, there are today 6 professional clowns in this unique programme in the Asian continent.
Every week, they visit children in 6 Hong Kong institutions. These are the Prince of Wales, Queen Elisabeth, Tuen Mun, Kwong Wah, Duchess of Kent and Queen Mary hospitals. Donations raised locally from companies and foundations have ensured the continuation of the clown doctors' visits.
Our main partners in Hong Kong are ISS, China Light and Power, the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation and the Ohel Leah Synagogue Charity.
We are deeply grateful to the Gerald Genta watch company for most generously donating a magnificent watch to help finance the activities of the foundation in Hong Kong. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Christie's for accepting this unique lot in their auction. May its future owner's eyes sparkle with as much joy as the eyes of the children when they catch sight of the clown doctor.

A GERLAD GENTA MINNIE WRISTWATCH, SOLD FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE THEODORA FOUNDATION
Post Lot Text
Donating a Minnie watch for the benefit of the Foundation Theodora means something really special to all of us at Gerald Genta..
As a young manufacture of watches working with the most traditional know-how inherited from the Swiss watch-making art, our models are created exclusively for men and women, who most of the time are watch collectors, or, thanks to our avant-garde image, fashion leaders and trend setters. Nevertheless, within this so particular and exclusive world, remains a very singular line, which was never dismissed: the Fantasy.
Since the beginning, Gerald Genta worked with Disney characters, blowing a new breath and vivid young spirit into the traditional watch-making world, by animating Mickey, Minnie, Donald and many other of their pairs on the brand's unique combination of small complications: a jumping hour coupled with a retrograde minute.
The watch presented at auction today belongs to this line and matches perfectly our purpose to participate in The Theodora Foundation's action. Every minute that Minnie's arm is pointing at, reminds us of the attachment that each of us has with childhood, as a time of innocence and eyes wide opened to the world.
Every minute that a smile lasts on a child's face is a treasure. Every second that a smile lasts on the face of a child who is suffering is worth more than a treasure!
By its action, the Theodora Foundation reminds us - "the reasonable adults" - that even when life leads us to the unacceptable, such as the suffering of a child, we can't get away with smiles, joy and hope and have to try hard to restore life and sparkles in his eyes. The "clown doctors", by their action show us that it is possible.
Gerald Genta knows that the benefits of the sale of this Minnie watch will go straight to the children themselves, bringing seconds, minutes and more generally full hours of joy in these children's hearts, as well as to their parents and relatives.
Gerald Genta is proud to bring its support to the Theodora Foundation and we all heartfully thank the "clown doctors" for their day to day action in the children's hospitals.
The opportunity is now within your hands to support with us, by your generosity, this initiative which we do hope will allow the Theodora Foundation to fulfil their mission beyond their expectations for the Hong Kong hospitals.
Inventive and unconventional, Gerald Genta was founded in 1969. In that spirit, Gerald Genta has continually revolutionized the world of exclusive watch making, provoking the discreet and traditional world of watches.
In 1979 the company received the highly coveted "Poincon de Geneve", a symbol of excellence and perfection in movements awarded to only a selected number of prestigious watchmakers located in Geneva. In June 2000 the Bulgari Group acquired Gerald Genta S.A.
Today, Gerald Genta is the unique luxury watch brand able to combine the high tradition of the Swiss watch making with an avant-garde design, also expressed through the use of innovative materials, coupled with ingenious technology and highly complicated movements. Daring and provocative, it is dedicated to those with a cosmopolitan and non-conformist way of life. Synonymous with opulence and ostentation, Gerald Genta creates stunning timepieces, which add a bold individualistic touch to the style of the free spirited man and woman.
