Another drawing of the Piazza seen through an arch is in Moscow (G.G. Grimm, I disegni di Quarenghi, Bergamo, 1997, no. 74). The present drawing was probably executed before 1779, when the artist moved to Saint Petersburg in Russia. When the artist returned to Italy in 1810-11, he did not go to Rome.
