We are grateful to Everett Fahy for noting, on the basis of photographs, that this is a characteristic work by Francia; the composition and handling are especially close to those of a painting of the same subject in the National Museum at Cracow (reproduced by E. Negro and N. Roio, Francesco Francia e la sua scuola, Modena, 1998, p. 308, no. 298).
