    Lot Essay

Ligon, whose work often engages issues of racial identity by exploring canonical texts and other printed matter, has long published prints as a parallel practice to his well-known paintings and drawings. Narratives takes the form of imagined covers to 19th century-style slave narratives yet clearly has the autobiographical voice of this contemporary artist.
