The sculpture of the Art Nouveau period where women were portrayed as dreamy, etheral creatures with mythical and surreal qualities was replaced by the new female figure who boldly and confidently marched into the 1920s and 1930s. She had no hesitation about been seen in her new guise and sculptors eagerly produced work to meet this demand. The German sculptor, Ferdinand Preiss, cast figures of women engaged in sporting activities such as tennis, golf, and swimming, all dressed in contemporary clothes with matching bobbed haircuts.
