GOULD -- SHARPE, Richard Bowdler (1847-1909). An Analytical index to the works of the late John Gould ... with a biographical memoir and portrait. London: Taylor and Francis for Henry Sotheran & Co., 1893.

FIRST EDITION. Sharpe's comprehensive work is an indispsensable companion volume to the study of Gould, both for the compendious and monumental index which lists every bird or mammal figured by Gould under genera, species, and vernacular names, and for the oft-quoted and much-cited memoir of 'the bird man' whom Sharpe first met in 1862. Sauer pp. 338-340; cf. Zimmer p. 582.
