Half title, coloured frontispiece portrait of the author, finished by hand, 6 coloured wood-engraved maps and 6 coloured plates, finished by hand, all plates mounted (a few text leaves very lightly spotted). 20th-century morocco gilt by Hatchards, Piccadilly (head of spine with a small chip), top edges gilt.
FIRST EDITION, ASSOCIATION COPY, inscribed on half title by the editor and wife of the author: "Violet Hermione Montrose from her loving Mother, Jane Hermione Graham".
