SHEET C2.9 PRINTED ON VELLUM AND ILLUMINATED BY A CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN ARTIST, foliate initial on burnished gold ground opening the text depicting presentation of the book, scrolling foliate and floral extensions, 3- to 7-line initials and paragraph marks alternating in red or blue. (Occasional small wormholes, some light browning.) Early 20th-century burgundy morocco panelled in gilt and blind, gilt edges, by Rivière & Son (short split at upper hinge). Provenance: 18th-century notes in French on flyleaf; William G. Robinson (bookseller, catalogue description tipped to front flyleaf).
Fifth edition of St. Gregory's exposition on the Book of Job. His longest work, he begins with its literal meaning before moving on to mystical and allegorical interpretations.
