GREIFSWALD, University Library -- Johann Carl DAEHNERT (1719-1785). Academiae Grypeswaldensis Bibliotheca. Catalogo Auctorum et repertorio reali universali descripta. Greifswald: A.F. Röse, 1775-1776.
3 volumes, 4o (201 x 138 mm). Double-page copper engraved frontispice by F.C. Krüger depicting the interior of the Greifswald library. Contemporary vellum, covers with gilt and crowned initial "E" (spines with wear or partly torn).
Johann Carl Daehnert, librarian at the University of Greifswald, reorganized the whole library and edited this monumental catalogue listing more than 52,000 titles. His innovation was the creation of a full index (volume III), the first of its kind, which proved to be an invaluable tool. The work is dedicated to King Gustav III, as Greifswald then belonged to Swedish Pommerania. (3)
