Lot Essay

Claude Gillot (1673-1722), the teacher of Watteau, was a member of the Paris Académie Royale de Peinture. The original drawing of one of the sheets survives in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The set originally comprised a total of eight sheets including the title page
