HAILLET DE COURONNE, Jean-Baptiste-Guillaume (1728-1810) -- Catalogue des livres de la bibliothèque de feu M. J.B.G. Haillet de Couronne. Paris: Tilliard frères, August 1811.
8o (195 x 122 mm). Modern marbled boards.
PRICED in a contemporary hand. At the age of twelve Haillet began forming a library; at one time it was said to contain ca 48,000 volumes, although owing to a fire this number was reduced to 30,000. As the preface, followed by a short biography, states, various events and retentions by his heirs, further reduced that number to 15,000, offered here in 2,325 lots. "Beaucoup de ses livres avaient été annotés par lui, et sont recherchés des amateurs" (Hoefer). Although the sale took place in 1811, the exact day is uncertain; the Grolier Club copy bears the supplied date of 23 December, 1811. Blogie, II col. 30; North 515.
