PRESENTATION COPY, HUMOROUSLY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY HAMMETT on the preliminary blank: "For Eric and Gerty with my best, if illiterate, regards and things Dashiell Hammett x his mark New York Jan. 23. 1934."
