Original light green cloth, decorated with deep blue mask design within red single-rule frame (covers discolored as usual); red dust jacket with photograph of Hammett on front and spine (slightest rubbing to extremities, otherwise fine); custom quarter morocco folding case with cloth onlays based on dust jacket design.
FIRST EDITION of Hammett's last novel. "I was leaning against the bar in a speakeasy on Fifty-second Street, waiting for Nora to finish her Christmas shopping..." The 1934 film adaptation starred William Powell, Myrna Loye, and Maureen O'Sullivan, and was nominated for four Adademy Awards, including for Best Picture and William Powell for Best Actor.
