Together 36 catalogues bound in two matching volumes of differing size. Contemporary brown half morocco, front covers set with inlaid panel containing the Abbey arms, t.e.g., others uncut, original wrappers bound in, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Provenance: J.R. Abbey (bookplates and arms on binding). Printed price-lists with buyers' names bound in with each portion.
The first binding contains the English and Continental books and manuscripts; the second comprises the significant collection of printed and manuscript Americana. After the thirty-fifth "and final" portion at the end of 1953, a supplemental portion was sold in 1954, entitled Catalogue of books Omitted or Returned from Previous Sales (bound here at end of the English and Continental volume).
