FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Jed Harris to his lover Ruth Gordon: "For Miss Ruthie JH." Harris first produced this play at the Times Square Theatre in New York on August 14, 1928. A screen version was released in 1931 and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. The 1940 film His Girl Friday and the 1988 film Switching Channels were also based on Hecht and MacArthur's play.
