Lot Essay

In 1914 Prellwitz began living along with his wife, Edith Mitchell, on Long Island year-round. He was one of few artists at that time to paint images of Long Island during the winter season. The present work poignantly illustrates his typical painting chracteristics of translating the frozen landscape into simple abstract patterns containing little detail, composed of a restricted range of soft hues.
