Centraal op deze aquarel zien we het Bible Hotel. Dit hotel bevond zich aan de het Damrak op de plaats die wij tegenwoordig Beursplein noemen. Het hotel werd afgebroken in 1911 om plaats te maken voor 'De Effectenbeurs' van de architect Jos Th. Cuypers.
Herman Misset schilderde dit werk in het jaar dat de afbraak van het hotel plaatsvond; mogelijk in opdracht van de Stad Amsterdam, voor wie hij veel documenteerde.
