The present watch appears to be in new old stock condition as it is still retaining the protective label to the case back and the original bracelet.
The Heuer Carrera model derives its name from the famous "Carrera Panamericana" race that was started in the 1950s and attracted many of the leading drivers of the time. The Argentinean driver Juan Manuel Fangio, five times Formula 1 World Champion, won the race in 1953.
As a tribute to this unique adventure, Heuer launched the Carrera chronograph wristwatch in 1963. The model with its distinctive look was an immediate success. Jack Heuer, CEO of the company, wanted a watch with excellent readability. Consequently the tachymetre scale was printed around the hour markers and the fifths of a second scale on a recessed outer ring, a layout which rendered the dial a larger and clearer look.
Still today, the Carrera is an extremely popular model amongst collectors.
