Systematisch geordnetes Verzeichniss...deutscher Bücher...vom XV. bis um die Mitte des XVIII. Jahrhunderts... Einzeldrucken von Volks- und Kirchenliedern... Gedichten und Flugschriften, Volksbüchern... Schauspielen. Ein bibliographischer Beitrag zur deutschen Litteratrugeschichte. Berlin: J.A. Stargart, 1854.
8o (216 x 135 mm). 19th-century half cloth and marbled boards (light rubbing to edges). Provenance: Helmuth Domizlaff (small "HD" stamp on title).
This anonymously published catalogue, largely compiled by the collector, the philologist Heyse, has been considered, from its first appearance to the present day (see Petzholdt and Folter), a valuable reference work on the German literature of the 15th- and 16th- centuries, made especially accessible by it's indices, that of names and subjects, and incipits of popular songs and church hymns. Heyse's wish, expressed in the preface, to see his life's work preserved as a whole, was not fulfilled, but the Berlin Royal Library acquired about 1,000 volumes from it, including the collection of popular songs, thus greatly strengthening its own holdings of early German literature. (See lot XXX for the auction catalogue). Folter 337.
