HORATIO, VISCOUNT NELSON (1758-1805)
Autograph document signed ('Horatio Nelson'), a cheque addressed to 'Mr Pollard', Agamemnon, 17 December 1793, 'Please to pay to Mr Wm Hoste the sum of Twenty Tuscan Crowns which place to the Account of Horatio Nelson', one page, irregularly cut from a larger leaf, approximately 94 x 192mm, backed onto card.
Sir William Hoste, 1st Bt (1780-1828) was twelve years old when he joined the Agamemnon under Nelson as captain's servant in April 1793. Nelson raised him to midshipman on 1 February 1794, and the two were to remain close friends.
