Contemporary tree calf (rebacked, corners worn). Provenance: H. Thornton (presentation inscription from the author on inserted leaf, possibly original endpaper, which reads: "Mr. Howard requests Mr. H. Thornton, will be kind enough to accept this book from him, as a small testimony of his esteem.").
FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY of Howard's report on the conditions of various European hospitals, containing both plans and notes on management and personnel.
