Large folio, nineteenth-century marbled paper over eighteenth-century sugar-paper and pasteboards, spine and corners recently renewed with calf, corners and board edges badly worn, endpapers renewed, title-leaf creased, some margins slightly stained, text leaf to plate 23 frayed at lower blank margin, ink stamp on title. FIRST EDITION, early issue with text on Super Royal laid paper (watermark: fleur-de-lys in shield, crowned, over GR/IV), plates on Grand Eagle laid (watermark: double-headed eagle/Dupuy Auvergne etc., as Heawood 1317), text in Latin and English, 34 life-size engraved plates, mostly after drawings by J.
