    Lot Essay

Bantal guling di atas sofa (Cushion on the sofa) is seemingly a marked departure from I Nyoman Masriadi's signature caricatured personas. However, the work still retains his style through the defined forms made with outlines of his subjects and strong bold colours of his works. The lines of this work resemble that of a designer's sketches and are not erased, again reminiscent of his other works where his sketch marks were outlined to become part of the artwork. He had created another work as part of this series titled 3 bantal guling and bantal (3 bolsters and a pillow), showcasing a bed set dressed in white. Despite the lack of a protagonist in this series, the work still retains the human factor in the subject matter selected. This work is also personal to the artist in his individual expression. The series of works was created recently in 2005 and is a unique development in the artist's aesthetic language.
