Lieutenant-Colonel William George Hibbert was born in Kingston, Ontario in December 1869 and gazetted to the Royal Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant in February 1889. Advanced to Lieutenant in February 1892, he served in the Chitral Relief Force with No. 6 Company, Madras Sappers and Miners, on the Lines of Communication, returning to the U.K. in late 1896. Hibbert attained the rank of Major in October 1908 and was placed on the Retired List as a result of ill-health in December 1910. Re-employed as a Commandant R.E. at Preston between August 1914 and December 1918, he was once more place on the Retired List, as a Lieutenant-Colonel, and died in Paris in September 1931.
