Ito Shinsui (1898-1972) was an important member of the Shin-hangamovement, which revitalised the traditional art of woodblock printing after it started to decline in the early 20th century. Although he produced some notable landscape prints, he became primarily known for his depiction of beautiful women (Bijinga), to which he imparted a unique, lyrical style.
