Accompanied by IWC International Guarantees, booklet, original fitted wooden presentation box with plaque inscribed 125 Years IWC International Watch Co. Ltd., Schaffhausen, Switzerland, Since 1868, No. 90 and outer packaging.
The "Portugieser Jubilee", reference 5441, was introduced into the market in 1993 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of IWC Schaffhausen and is a classic amongst collectors. The model was made in a limited edition of 1000 examples in stainless steel, 500 in pink gold and 250 in platinum. The first 125 watches of each case material were offered as complete sets, all bearing the same limited edition number, the present lot being number 90 of this series.
Complete sets of this model are exceedingly rare, especially also if in unused condition and still maintaining the original tags, bracelets, certificates and box.
The Portugieser model
In the late 1930s, IWC received a rather unusual order from a customer in Portugal who requested a wristwatch with the same size and accuracy of a pocket watch. To comply with his request, IWC chose their at the time slimmest and most reliable calibre 74 movement and cased it in stainless steel. This quite revolutionary model immediately became a legend and was the obvious choice to celebrate the company's 125th anniversary in 1993.
The Portugieser Jubilee Watch 1868 - 1993 features the same silvered matte dial with Arabic numerals and the same case size. The movement is almost identical to the famous calibre 74 with the difference of the shock-resistance, hence the new designation calibre 9828.
