JACK KIRBY AND JIM STERANKO
Stuntman 1973,1996 Original art. In 1973, Jim Steranko commissioned Jack Kirby to draw one of his most colorful heroes for Supergraphics' History Of Comics Calendar. Kirby pencilled the definitive Stuntman pin-up with the same energy he used for Captain America and Fighting American, two similar characters with a penchant for spectacular acrobatic action. In 1996, Steranko inked the illustration on acetate for the cover of The Jack Kirby Collector. He later rendered a fully painted color version on a separate board and combined the two pieces of art (similar to the creation of an animation cel and its background) into a single unit, which was then mounted under plexiglass and double matted. The art represents a rare milestone of collaboration between two comic book legends and a first in this format. Image size--9 x 12 in.
