Lot Essay

Jackson Pollack made eleven engravings at Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 in the fall of 1944 and in the spring of 1945. Several trial proofs were printed at that time however, there are no known Atelier 17 impressions from this particular plate. Nine of the eleven plates were found in 1966 at which time Emiliano Sorini printed this edition in New York City. At the completion of printing, all of the plates were given to the Museum of Modern Art by Lee Krasner.
