A rare series including a wide variety of natural history subjects, mostly flowers, with animals and some figurative scenes. The majority have a rococo/chinoiserie style, a number are given exotic locations, and the series includes plants representing China, Japan, India, Africa, Europe, North and South America. The work was produced as a pattern book for the use of craftsmen and artists, the provenance of the present copy gives an indication of one of the more specific uses for the plates. Berlin Kat. 497; cf. Nissen BBI Supplement 349n (a work titled Collection de 12 cahiers des plantes trangers, fleurs, fruites, corail et coquillages, Paris, 1784).
