The Uranie arrived in western Australia on 12 September 1818. Freycinet landed at Shark Bay (Baie des Chiens-Marins), setting up his observatory on the beach as seen in Pellion's watercolour (lot 34), and exploring the Peron Peninsula (named on Baudin's voyage). Duperrey took a boat to survey the coast, the Vlamingh plate which marked the Dutch landing in 1697 was removed from Dirck Hartog's island, and the crew made brief excursions inland, hunting and searching for water. They weighed anchor and sailed for Timor on 26 September.
