A study for the picture of the same composition in the Church of Saint Symphorien-de-Montreuil in Versailles (G. Chomer, 'Jacques Stella "Pictor Lugdunsis"', Revue de l'Art, 1980, 47, p. 86, fig. 2). This picture was originally painted for the Franciscan nuns of Saint Elizabeth de Bellecour in Lyon in 1645, and later moved to Versailles. The picture is one of the best known from Stella's Lyon period and was described by all subsequent biographers, including Dezallier d'Argenville.
Another preparatory drawing, reversed and with many differences, is at Nancy (C. Gelly-Saldias, Une donation d'art graphique, exhib. cat., Nancy, Musée des Beaux-Arts, 2001, no. 53).
