This manuscript was copied in an astaneh, a Sufi shrine or foundation. A manuscript of the complete works of Sa'di in the Bodleian Library, Oxford (MS.Fraser 73), was copied at the astaneh of Husam al-Din in Shiraz by the calligrapher and illuminator Ruzbihan and at least six other manuscripts are known to have been copied in this building between 1510 and 1525. It seems likely that in addition to its religious function, the building served as an atelier for book production. The present manuscript may have been produced at this same centre.
