2o (360 x 270 mm). 50 woodcut illustrations of Japanese tree peonies, each colored by hand and with printed caption indentifying the subject (some occasional light soiling.) Accordion form album, covers of fabric with painted design; cloth slipcase. Provenance: Buzen Muto (MHS presentation bookplate dated 1899); Massachusetts Horticultural Society (bookplates and stamps).
A FINE AND STRIKING SERIES OF ILLUSTRATIONS, WITH VIBRANT COLORING. Laid-in is a typed and manuscript list giving the transliterations of the Japanese names, made by the Asian Department of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
