PORTRAIT OF ANNE-HELENE DREYFUS Y GONZALEZ-TALLEYRAND PERIGORD, OIL ON CANVAS, SIGNED BY JEAN-JOSEPH BENJAMIN CONSTANT

This admirable portrait represents the eldest child of the third marquis of Talleyrand (1845-1918), Anne-Hélène de Talleyrand-Périgord. En 1907 she marries Edouard Vicente Dreyfus y Gonzalez de Orbegozo, duke of Premio Real (1876-1941). It seems that this work was painted before her wedding as Constant died in 1902. The work is a magnificent example of society portrait painting in the grand manner, a genre in which Constant excelled with his many commissions from European high society and celebrities of the period.

Cet admirable portrait peint par Benjamin Constant représente l'aînée du troisième marquis de Talleyrand (1845-1918), Anne-Hélène de Talleyrand-Périgord. En 1907, elle épouse Edouard Vicente Dreyfus y Gonzalez de Orbegozo, duc de Premio Real (1876-1941). Il semblerait que ce tableau fut peint avant son mariage car Benjamin Constant décède en 1902. L'oeuvre est un magnifique exemple de la grande tradition du portrait mondain dont Benjamin Constant fut un des grand maîtres avec ses représentations de la haute société française et anglaise, ainsi que nombre de personnalités de l'époque.
