Lot Essay

This is a revised and updated edition of Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr's 4-inch (10cm.) terrestrial globe of 1736, the gores of which were engraved by Johann Georg Puschner. Van der Krogt notes that: "Towards the end of the 18th century (ca. 1789-1795), Doppelmayr's globes were republished by the Nuremberg publisher Wolfgang Paul Jenig, who used to engrave his name (Jenig fecit) and sometimes a date in the meridian".
