Lot Essay

Similar to two drawings of the same period in the collection of the Frsten von Lichtenstein, Vaduz (M. Bonnefoit, Johann Wilhelm Baur, Berlin, 1997, nos. M73-4).
Baur first studied in Strasburg with Brentel (see lot 121). In 1626 he left for Italy and travelled to Florence, Rome and Naples. His style later showed the strong influence of etchers like Callot and Stefano della Bella.
