According to an additional later inscription on the reverse of the frame, Master Twisden was the only son of Sir John Twisden Bt, of Bradbourn and Elizabeth, daughter of Admiral Geary. The Twisdens were a prominent family in Kent. Thomas Twisden purchased the estate of Bradbourne, Kent, in 1656 and in 1666 was made a baronet. He was knighted and made a High Court judge by Charles II and died at the age of 81. After him the Twisdens of Bradbourne provided three Members of Parliament and two Naval officers. The last and eighth baronet of Twisden of Bradbourne died in 1937.
