[LE CAMUS DE LIMARE (1722-95)] -- Guillaume DEBURE the elder (1734-1820, expert). Catalogue de livres rares. Dont la Vente se fera le Lundi 13 Mars 1786 & jours suivants. Paris: G. de Bure, fils aîné, [Maître le Jeune, Commissaire-Priseur], 1786.
8o (200 x 120 mm). With avertissement, table of subjects, schedule of sale, price-list. Woodcut title-vignette and head-piece. Contemporary gold-tooled blue-green morocco, roll-tooled borders on sides, spine decorated in compartments, pink silk liners, gilt edges, (minor repair to joints and corners). Provenance: Antoine-Augustin Renouard (clipping from his 1819 private-library catalogue [v. IV, p. 253] pasted in, priced in manuscript, with some buyers' names, corrections and condition notes) -- Major Adrian McLaughlin (bookplate, Monaco sale, 7 Oct. 1986, lot 1426).
IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY, as the young Renouard (1765-1853) attended the sale, buying sparingly. Describing the sale 33 years later, he related how during this dispersal "j'ai vu de mes propres yeux son propriétaire acheter chez Belin junior, et chez d'autres libraires, vingt, trente volumes à la fois, de livres rares et fort chers." Le Camus de Limare's collection was strong in early Italian and French printing, the classics, etc., all finely bound, but at this early date must be rated as particularly important for its extensive holdings in the history of science and natural history. RARE, especially complete with the printed price-list. North 325.
