Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti unveiled their first design collection in 1981 at Jansen, the renowned furniture and interior design firm on the Rue Royale in Paris. Although neither person had previous experience in furniture design, their collaborative efforts to produce objets barbares and objets primitifs met with great enthusiasm. The furniture, which also referenced the Baroque, combined traditional forms and materials with innovative ornamentation and finishes. All of Garouste and Bonetti's work is produced in small, limited editions. The present cabinets were a special commission and executed in a size larger than that of the typical 'Lenotre' model.
