NOTE:
Completed in the 1970s, this painting is one of the Lin Fengmian's later works. The vase placed prominently in the window, fully expresses the artist's imaginative feel for composition. The yellow flowers reflect the bright sunlight beyond the window in contrast with their dark background. Lin dedicated much of histime during the 1960s and 1970s to creating a large series of still life paintings. He painted fruit and flowers in a variety of vases and other containers in order to explore colour, composition and contours, as well as to accentuate the harmony between Eastern aesthetics and Western forms in his pursuit of beauty and passion in everyday life.
