A bold announcement that "Our beloved President, Abraham Lincoln, is no more. He died by the hand of an assassin, at twenty-two minutes past seven o'clock, this morning This sudden bereavement covers the the whole nation with the deepest gloom." In the accompanying text, the mayor of Lynn requests that businesses close for the afternoon as a "token of sorrow."
Such posters rarely survive, though a somewhat similar New York poster, of larger size, was sold at Christie's 9 December 1998, lot 110 $5500.
