LINDE, Antonius van der (1833-97). Bibliografie van Haarlem. Haarlem: Joh. Enschedé for F.J. Mac Donald, 1867.

Large 8o (265 x 175 mm). PRINTED ON VELLUM, apparently the only copy. Title printed in red and black. Wood-engraved arms of Haarlem on half-title and title. Contemporary mauve hard-grain morocco, covers and spine panelled with gilt fillets, roll-tooled border on turn-ins, top edges gilt.

FIRST EDITION of the bibliography of van der Linde's native city. No other copy printed on vellum seems to be recorded, but there is no evidence that it is the compiler's own. Van der Linde states that he purposely omitted from his bibliography the literature on Coster and the then controversial question of the invention of printing, to which he contributed so much himself. He was also the leading historian of chess and chess literature. THE VELLUM SHEETS ARE IN FINE AND WHITE CONDITION, with no discoloring.
