Original blue cloth, covers blocked in blind, spine blocked in blind with gilt lettering (rebacked, original spine laid down, inner hinges repaired). Provenance: David Livingstone (author's presentation inscription on half-title, bookplate).
LIVINGSTONE'S MEDICAL HANDBOOK, presented to Livingstone less than a month before the Zambesi Expedition set sail from Liverpool on 10 March 1858, and presumably carried with him for this journey amongst others. The inscription reads 'From the Author To Dr. David Livingstone L.L.D. D.C.L &c & With best wishes for his good health, the success of the Zambesi expedition, and his safe return. London Feb. 13th 1858.'; sold as an association copy not subject to return.
