(12 3/4 x 7 3/4in.), contemporary calf, spine in seven compartments with a red morocco lettering label in one and a single gilt thistle in the rest, spine and corners repaired, joints worn, endpapers renewed using old paper, upper outer corners of last five leaves Contents with old dampstain.
FIRST EDITION, the issue with cancel title-page containing the inverted "SS" of "Essay", the type ornament composed of 23 pieces and without Elizabeth Holt's name in the imprint; the dedication undated, errata uncorrected.
