8o. Unopened sheets (scattered minor residue at inner and top edges).
FIRST EDITION, remaindered Arkham House issue, with their copyright cancel pasted on the title verso. Paul Cook, Lovecraft's dedicatee and the publisher of The Recluse printed 300 copies of this work in 1928. Over the next 20 years only about half of these sheets made it into circulation in a variety of incarnations. August Derleth acquired the remaining 150 sheets for Arkham House from Lovecraft's executor in the early 1950's. The present unbound sheets represent his first release of The Shunned House, they were later bound in black cloth uniform to Arkham's other titles.
