Colebrooke was deemed an outstanding surveyor and draftsman. He worked with the Bengal Infantry, on survey during the Mysore Wars 1781-1785 and surveyed the return route from Madras back to Calcutta.
It has been suggested that this watercolour and lot 229 show another part of Lady Teignmouth's garden house (see lot 218). The garden is probably opposite the botanic gardens that can be seen on the far bank.
See lots 229 and 248 for other examples of the artist's work.
