According to the accompanying documentation, this photograph and signed mount orginally came onto the market from the Estate of Clark Gable.
The Misfits written by Arthur Miller for his wife Marilyn Monroe and directed by John Huston, is often acclaimed as being the vehicle in which Gable portrayed the best acting of his career. The film's production was hit by numerous problems, not least the instability of the film's co-star Monroe. Gable, who insisted on doing all his own stunts, suffered from the strain and exertion and died of a heart attack two weeks after the completion of filming. Sadly, The Misfits was also the last film Marilyn Monroe completed before her death in 1962.
