MARILYN MONROE PHOTOGRAPHS AND LAYOUT PAGES FROM 'MARILYN MONROE PIN-UPS' MAGAZINE
A group of vintage print photographs submitted by various photographers to use in the production of a magazine printed in 1953 called 'Marilyn Monroe Pin-Ups' (See Lots 10 and 12). From the archives of the publisher, pieces include: 2 8x10 inch black and white photographs of MM in a terrycloth bikini, a 10x4 inch black and white contact sheet with 3 sequential images of MM wearing a white shirt, a 10x8 inch black and white contact sheet with 12 images of MM wearing a bikini on the beach shot by Antony Beauchamp and a color transparency of MM wearing a gold lame bikini at a hotel pool shot by Paul Meuchling. All photographs have pencilled annotations on the verso indicating where they would be placed in the magazine. Also included are 3 pieces of graph paper with the photo placements noted and a mock-up of the magazine cover; this has a black and white photograph of MM wearing a one-piece bathing suit cut-to-shape and placed on a bright red background. Interestingly, the first verion of this 'MM Pin-Ups' magazine was considered too risque so it was pulled from the newsstands and replaced with a toned-down version.
Please note some of the graph paper is now in fragile condition with dog-eared borders.
